AT&T,
Aaron Nelsen,
iPhone
Okay, even though I’m on a camping trip I’ve been using my iPhone during the car ride. Now my question is this, I have data roaming turned off, but is there still a chance AT&T might sock me extra for my data usage? Their website says that data coverage is provided in this area through partner coverage, but excessive usage may result in termination of your service or additional charges.
I guess my question is more along the lines of what constitutes excessive use?

Aaron Nelsen,
UMPC
By now my obsession with UMPC’s should be quite apparent, so naturally I was thrilled to learn that Samsung is prepping a third revision of their Q1 UMPC. Specifications are tragically absent, but it’s safe to assume that it will be sporting some form of Intel’s Atom processor.
The target launch date is early next year, again no specs or pricing have been annouced.

Aaron Nelsen,
Repo
If you’re having problems using the iSlsk Patch, check and make sure you have the BSD subsystem installed.
I’ll try and update the patch to actually check for the BSD subsystem later today.

Aaron Nelsen,
Random
We are totally screwed…

Remember when $127 a barrel was record high? Think again.
Expect gas prices to jump sometime within the next few days.

Aaron Nelsen,
Apple,
Rumors,
iPhone
Everyone on the net is claiming to have an insider who has tipped them off as to the launch date of the 3G iPhone, whether or not any of those claims are legit there is a very good chance the 3G iPhone will be released on June 9th.
That leads me to the obvious question… Will you be buying one?

Aaron Nelsen,
Repo,
iPhone,
iPod touch
I’ve received a few emails from people who can’t get the Firewire GUID patch for iSlsk to work. So I’ve rewritten the patch and posted an update to Installer.
In order to fully test it, I restored my iPhone to stock 1.1.4 firmware, jailbroke it and installed both iSlsk and the Firewire GUID patch and it seems to be working. If anyone is still having problems, please contact me and we’ll get things sorted out.
p.s. Remember to refresh your sources to get the update!

Continuing the series of posts I started last week, here are a few more Terminal tips.
[16] uptime
Shows the current time, how long your computer has been running, as well as the average load.
[17] top
Much like Activity Monitor, the top command displays a list of all running processes on your system.
[18] emacs
Allows you to run the old unix program emacs.

Aaron Nelsen,
Random
So apparently TV writers share their random trivia between networks, because last night on both The Big Bang Theory on CBS, and Bones on Fox, they mentioned Schr√∂dinger’s cat.
For those of you who don’t know the back story behind the theory, here’s a quick rundown from Wikipedia:
A cat, along with a flask containing a poison, is placed in a sealed box shielded against environmentally induced quantum decoherence. The flask is shattered, releasing the poison, if a Geiger counter detects radiation. Quantum mechanics seems to suggest that after a while the cat is simultaneously alive and dead, in a quantum superposition of coexisting alive and dead states. Yet when we look in the box we expect to see the cat either alive or dead, not in a mixture of alive and dead.
Anyhow, I know that’s incredibly random, but I felt the need to share.

Aaron Nelsen,
Repo
For those of you who keep getting the error shown below when using iSlsk, try installing the Firewire GUID Fix for iSlsk patch that I’ve just added to the Hijinks Inc. Repo.
Your Firewire GUID couldn’t be recognized and therefore music importing will not be available.
It has the same effect as the manual fix for the problem, it’s just a whole lot easier.
To add the Hijinks Inc. Repo to Installer, go to your Sources list, hit Edit, tap Add and enter http://i.hijinksinc.com (make sure the i is lowercase).
